European Commission urges Ukraine to reform National Police and SBI in the coming year

The European Commission in its report calls on Ukraine to reform the National Police and the State Border Guard Service in the next year, MP Zheleznyak has said.

In particular, the EC calls for the introduction of selection with the participation of “independent experts” (that is, recommended by Western partners) for senior positions in the police and the GBI (both in the central and regional offices)

“Introduce transparent and merit-based procedures for selection and appointment to senior positions in the central and regional offices of the National Police and the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) with the involvement of independent experts. These procedures should be accompanied by strict disciplinary and anti-corruption rules, adapted to the local context and aimed at eliminating real corruption risks,” the document says.
