Corruption in the Security Service

Salaries in the main office of the SBU in Kiev and the Kiev region range from 4 to 16 thousand UAH. At the same time, some employees of the security services come to work every morning on cars costing between $ 30 and $ 100,000, Scheme’s program says.

Official salary of a civil servant for such a car could be collected for many years, and even for the rest of his life, the journalists note.

Over the past three months, 25 senior SBU officers were detained on suspicion of corruption. Schemes figured out whether the Ukrainian special services remained corrupt.

For several weeks we are on duty near two offices of the Security Service of Ukraine. The purpose of our hunt is to see which cars are driven by employees who also deal with the fight against corruption and economic crimes. It’s not just curiosity. Cars are a very good indicator of income-matching lifestyle. Judging by the cars, their owners earn at least several thousand dollars a month – as top managers of foreign companies, although they are officially earning only Tavria, the story says.

First Deputy Head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Head of the Main Department for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime of the SBU Central Directorate Viktor Trepak goes to work at the Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, recorded on relatives.

At the same time, the head of the Main Directorate of the Security Service in Kiev and the Kiev region, Mikhail Glukhovsky, claims that there is no parking near the building, and most of the special services’ employees get to work on public transport. However, the journalists found out that near the office of the SBU there are several parking lots at the disposal of employees.

During the preparation of this plot on October 2, the SBU detained the crew of the Scheme program – journalist Mikhail Tkach and cameraman Kirill Lazaravich. Later they were released, and a video of the incident was published on Radio Liberty.

On October 15, it became known that the military prosecutor’s office opened criminal proceedings against SBU officers for obstructing journalistic activities.
