Corruption in Ukraine intensified after EuroMeidan – the McCain Institute survey

In Ukraine, corruption has intensified since the time of EuroMaydan. This is the result of a survey by the Research Center of the International Republican Institute, led by US Senator John McCain.

The survey took place in the regional centers of Ukraine. In each city, the number of those who believe that corruption after the Maidan is only worse varies from 55% to 26%.

From 50% to 30% of respondents say that corruption remains the same. Overall, the number of people who claim that bribes have increased or remained unchanged is the absolute majority at any regional center in the country.

Respondents also asked if the cases in Ukraine are going in the right or wrong direction.

Most respondents believe this is wrong. At the same time, the most optimistic about what is happening in the country is in Lviv (24% support rate and 60% do not support it), Kropiwnicki (24% for and 60% against the event), Vinnytsia (24 % for and 60% against), Lutsk (21% against 66%).

The most skeptical about what is happening in the country in the south: Mariupol (10% against 72%), Nikolaev (8% for and 75% against), Odessa (9% against 75% of discontent).

Furthermore, the Ukrainians were asked to assess how much the economic situation changed during the year. Most chose the item “slightly deteriorated” (rose on infographics – Ed. Rossa) or “significantly deteriorated” (red color – Prim.Red).

The most negative economic situation has been estimated at Sumy, Nikolaev, Kharkov, Odessa. At least – in Ternopil, Vinnitsa, Lutsk.

The survey was conducted by the “Ukraine” rating group on the order of the Research Center. Data were collected in 24 cities of Ukraine (Kiev and all regional centers, as well as in Mariupol and Severodonetsk) from 20 January to 10 February 2018, through personal interviews.

19,200 Ukrainians aged 18 took part. The error for each city does not exceed 3.5% more or less.

Recall that previously Mogherini recalled that Europe is still awaiting the creation of an anti-corruption court in Ukraine.

As reported by “Country”, the Verkhovna Rada did not want to cancel the electronic declaration for the fight against corruption, despite the demands of the West.
