UN CONCERNED FOR ATTACKS AND PRESSURES ON HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS IN UKRAINE
The United Nations is concerned about the attacks and pressure on human rights defenders in Ukraine. This was at a conference in Kiev, said human rights expert of the United Nations Monitoring Mission for Human Rights Eva Schmidt, reports UNN.
“The UN monitoring mission in Ukraine began work in 2014, we have been working here for 4.5 years,” she said.
According to Schmidt, the mission staff constantly monitor the situation with the rights of human rights defenders, communicate with lawyers throughout Ukraine, especially in specific political matters, discuss their role, privileges and work, interventions and violations in trials in certain years.
“We are concerned about reports of recent attacks by extreme right-wing groups, as we call them, and about the impact on human rights bodies, which is what we observed during these 4.5 years, this is what we view as a trend that continues. We are concerned about this and in our future report for the quarter, which we will publish on September 19, we dedicated one section to this important topic, “she said.
